Congratulations Christiane M. Hadi, MD, MPH, MSc!

We are pleased to announce that Christiane M. Hadi, MD, MPH, MSc, was recently promoted to the rank of Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine retroactive to July 1, 2024. Dr. Hadi joined the faculty of the Division of Infectious Diseases in the Department of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh at the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine in 2017. Dr. Hadi has an interest in reducing health disparities in medicine. She joined the UPMC Social Medicine Teaching Leadership group in 2020 and obtained certification in 2021.

Dr. Hadi is an outstanding clinician within the ID Division and is one of the major clinicians staffing the inpatient and outpatient ID services. She currently spends time rounding on the inpatient General ID/Surgical ID teaching services at UPMC Presbyterian and Magee hospitals and provides outpatient consultations and follow-up in the Center for Care of Infectious Diseases. She provides specialist and primary care to patients with HIV in her weekly half-day clinic at the Pittsburgh Area Center for Treatment (PACT Clinic). Dr. Hadi provides compassionate care to a large panel of patients with HIV which includes young adults, women of childbearing age, men, transgender, and elderly individuals. She is passionate about providing medical care to underserved populations. Dr. Hadi regularly volunteers at the Birmingham Free Clinic (BFC). The BFC provides free, compassionate health care services to the greater Pittsburgh community as a safety net for homeless, uninsured, and medically indigent individuals. Approximately 60% of the patients served in this clinic are non-English speaking. Dr. Hadi provides direct patient care and mentors medical students and residents in this setting. Additionally, she provides free consultations to the Squirrel Hill Health Center (the designated clinic for initial refugee medical exams in the Pittsburgh area) for patients with complicated or tropical infections.

In 2022 Dr. Hadi joined the volunteers staffing the School of Medicine Human Rights Clinic at the University of Pittsburgh. This clinic is a collaboration between the School of Law and the School of Medicine at Pitt. Dr. Hadi completed training in medical forensic evaluations and medical-legal affidavit writing for asylum seekers. By documenting the physical and psychological sequelae of human rights abuses and submitting a medical-legal affidavit to the immigration court, physicians can make a significant difference in whether these individuals are granted asylum or other relief from deportation.

Dr. Hadi is a well-respected member of the Infectious Diseases faculty. She is recognized among her colleagues as a highly skilled clinician and dedicated educator. Dr. Hadi demonstrates collegiality, compassion, enthusiasm, and a strong work ethic. She is an outstanding role model for students, residents, and ID fellows. We are confident that she will continue to make important contributions to the academic environment at the University of Pittsburgh and to the field of Infectious Diseases.

Please join us in congratulating Christiane!
