New Episode of Microbe Matters: “The Pitt Men’s Study, Forty Years Strong”



We are pleased to announce the release of “Microbe Matters” Episode 2 entitled, “The Pitt Men’s Study, Forty Years Strong.” Episode 2 commemorates the 40th anniversary of the HIV Pitt Men’s Study, a cornerstone of HIV research and prevention efforts since the earliest days of the epidemic. This installment acknowledges the countless researchers, participants, and healthcare providers who have contributed to the enduring legacy of the Pitt Men’s Study.

In this episode, we are joined by Charles Rinaldo, PhD, Professor of Medicine and founding investigator of the Pitt Men’s Study; Nathaniel Soltesz, Clinical Research Coordinator for the Pitt Men’s Study; and, Jeffrey, a long-term study participant.

Together, our guests examine the evolution of the Pitt Men’s Study, from its initial findings to its community- centered focus and the hope it continues to provide for the future of HIV research. Dr. Rinaldo reflects upon the study’s groundbreaking origins and the challenges of conducting research in the early 1980s when HIV was just emerging.
