We are pleased to announce that Nupur Gupta, DO, MPH, was recently promoted to the rank of Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine retroactive to July 1, 2024. Dr. Gupta joined the ID Division as an ID Fellow in 2017. During her fellowship, she served as the medical education fellow and completed a sub-specialization in HIV/AIDS. Dr. Gupta joined the faculty of the Division of Infectious Diseases at the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine in 2019.
Dr. Gupta is an outstanding clinician and has held a hybrid role since she started her career with the Infectious Diseases Division. Until recently, she was one of the major clinicians staffing the inpatient and outpatient ID services at UPMC Presbyterian and Magee hospitals. She also provides inpatient telemedicine ID consultative services to multiple remote hospitals within the UPMC Health System as well as those outside the health system through ID Connect. Through ID Connect, she assisted on two state-wide grants for infection prevention and control. Additionally, she is a faculty member of the HIV/AIDS group within the IDDivision. She had a HIV primary care clinic at the PACT clinic. She has been instrumental in leading the tele HIV efforts for the ID division since 2019. She holds several monthly half-day HIV clinics conducted via telemedicine at various tele-consult centers across Pennsylvania. She also innovated a “mobile suitcase” which allows a local registered nurse to carry the telemedicine equipment and a laptop to the patient’s home for a clinical visit.
Dr. Gupta has a primary research interest in telemedicine and ID. Subsequently, she serves as the co-chair for the Telemedicine Research Working Group within the ID division. She and the PACT clinic also received a grant in the amount of $450,000 in June 2023 through August 2025 for a proposal entitled,
“Telehealth Strategies to Maximize HIV Care: Advancing Equity through Telehealth Coordination in the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program” through HRSA.
Dr. Gupta volunteers her time at the Birmingham Free Clinic as a physician. She has also served on IDSA Fellows’ Subcommittee. Until recently, she was also a core faculty member for the ID Fellowship program.
Dr. Gupta is a critical member of the Infectious Diseases faculty. She is recognized among her colleagues as a highly skilled clinician and dedicated educator. Her record of accomplishments and awards in clinical care, teaching, research, mentoring, and leadership has enhanced the educational and clinical care missions of the ID Division and the Department of Medicine.
