Congratulations Sarah K. McBeth, MD, MPH!

We are pleased to announce that Sarah K. McBeth, MD, MPH, was recently promoted to the rank of Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine retroactive to July 1, 2024. Dr. McBeth completed an Infectious Diseases fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh in 2015 within the HIV Track. She joined the faculty of the Division of Infectious Diseases at the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine upon graduation.

Dr. McBeth is an outstanding clinician within the ID Division and is one of the major clinicians staffing the Pittsburgh Area Center for Treatment (PACT), within UPMC’s Center for Care of Infectious Diseases where she currently provides HIV primary care while teaching fellows, residents, and students. She has spearheaded initiatives at PACT including treatment of Hepatitis C among patients with HIV/HCV co-infection – now nearly all of PACT’s patients with Hep C have been treated with a cure rate exceeding 90%. She currently serves as the site Principal Investigator of an HRSA Special Project of National Significance, Emerging Strategies to Improve Health Outcomes for People Aging with HIV. Dr McBeth is also an active member of the Quality Improvement Committee at the Center for the Care of Infectious Disease and has overseen projects aimed at effectively linking patients to care and retaining them in care. Additionally, she joined the Allies for Health + Wellbeing Community Healthcare Center in 2016 where she continues to serve as Medical Director. She provides clinical care at Allies which serves people with HIV, provides HIV pre-exposure and post-exposure prophylaxis, hepatitis C treatment, Medication Assisted Treatment for people with opiate dependence, and LGBT-friendly primary care. Dr. McBeth’s presence at this growing clinic has allowed it to become a teaching site, regularly hosting students from the Health Care for the Underserved elective. She has built a strong relationship with the Case Management department at Allies, particularly the Minority AIDS Initiative “Lost-to-Care” program and uses this relationship to benefit her most vulnerable patients and those of her colleagues at both Allies and PACT. Dr. McBeth also serves on the Allies Quality Improvement Committee, contributing to policies, protocols, and quality initiatives at this growing organization. Dr McBeth regularly volunteers at the Birmingham Clinic, which serves uninsured Pittsburghers. She first worked there as a Global Health Track resident at UPMC in 2013 and she continues to enjoy caring for this largely immigrant population.

Dr. McBeth is a critical member of the Infectious Diseases faculty. She is recognized among her colleagues as a highly skilled clinician and dedicated educator. Her record of accomplishments in clinical care, teaching, research, mentoring, and leadership has enhanced the educational and clinical care missions of the ID Division and the Department of Medicine.

Please join us in congratulating Sarah!
