We are pleased to welcome Junaid Anwar, MD, to our Infectious Diseases Fellowship Program. Dr. Anwar hails from the city of New York and completed his medical education at St. George’s University in Grenada. Following medical school, he trained at the Icahn School of Medicine – Elmhurst Hospital in New York City, an experience that profoundly influenced his decision to pursue a career in Infectious Diseases.
During his residency at Elmhurst Hospital, Dr. Anwar encountered a wide array of infectious diseases, treating patients from diverse backgrounds who often arrived at the hospital directly from JFK International or LaGuardia Airports. This exposure to global pathogens solidified his interest in the field. As he embarks on his fellowship, Dr. Anwar remains open to exploring different ID tracks, with particular interest in Endovascular, Surgical, and Transplant Infectious Diseases.
Outside of his medical career, Dr. Anwar enjoys a rich personal life. He loves spending time with family and friends, exploring new cultures and cuisines, and indulging his passion for motorcycles—he proudly rides a Ducati Scrambler. Dr. Anwar is joined in Pittsburgh by his wife, whom he describes as his best friend. Together, they are looking forward to discovering Pittsburgh’s dynamic food scene, attending sports events, and perhaps even catching a Steelers game, despite Dr. Anwar not being a huge football fan.
We are delighted to have Dr. Anwar join our fellowship program and look forward to the insights and experiences he will bring to our team.
