Welcome Spencer Schrank, DO!


We are pleased to welcome our newest ID Faculty member, Assistant Professor, Spencer Schrank, DO. Dr. Schrank completed his Internal Medicine internship and residency at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC. He participated in patient safety and quality improvement in infectious disease care scholarly projects during residency. Dr. Schrank completed his Infectious Diseases fellowship at UPMC this year. He served as Chief Fellow for the ID Division from 2023- 2024. As an ID fellow, Dr. Schrank received accolades for his clinical skills and teaching. His hospital epidemiology investigations are elucidating transmission risk of non-tuberculous mycobacteria. He is currently pursuing an MS degree in Epidemiology from the University of Pittsburgh School of Public Health.

Dr. Schrank serves as Associate Director of Infection Prevention and Hospital Epidemiology for UPMC Presbyterian. In this role with the UPMC Presbyterian/Shadyside Infection Prevention and Control team, he contributes to and leads efforts to reduce the risk of hospital-associated infections. He practices as a general Infectious Diseases consultant, and attends on the inpatient Infectious Diseases consultation services at UPMC Presbyterian. He is a member of the Infectious Diseases Society of America and The Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America.
