We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Mohamed Yassin, MD, PhD, MBA, has been promoted to the rank of Professor of Medicine, effective May 1, 2024. Since joining the Infectious Diseases Division in 2009, Dr. Yassin has become a cornerstone of the medical community at UPMC Mercy Hospital, where he serves as Medical Director of Infection Control and Director of Antibiotic Stewardship.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Yassin, in collaboration with Dr. Graham Snyder, played a pivotal role in leading infection prevention initiatives, particularly within the dialysis unit. His efforts in this area, along with other system-wide infection control strategies, have had a significant impact on the hospital’s safety and patient care. Dr. Yassin’s leadership extends to his work on implementing successful hand hygiene protocols and pioneering innovative approaches to reduce hospital-associated infections.
Over the past eight years, Dr. Yassin has chaired the Quality Committee at UPMC Mercy, driving numerous quality improvement measures that have not only enhanced patient care but also helped the hospital avoid regulatory penalties. His dedication to fostering a culture of excellence has inspired many within the hospital to embrace quality and safety.
In addition to his leadership and clinical roles, Dr. Yassin has gained recognition as an outstanding mentor and educator. He has guided countless students, residents, and Infectious Diseases fellows during their rotations, earning a reputation for his depth of knowledge and enthusiastic teaching style. His contributions have been instrumental in advancing the research, education, and patient care missions of the Infectious Diseases Division and the Department of Medicine.
