Dr. Bernard Macatangay, MD, Kicks Off ID Week 2023 by Presenting ‘What’s Hot in HIV Basic Science’

ID Week is now in full motion, and yesterday Pitt ID investigator, Beej Macatangay, MD, presented on “What’s Hot in HIV Basic Science.”

Dr. Macatangay highlighted several cases in literature where stem cell transplantation resulted in HIV remission, and patients were able to stop antiretroviral therapy. After decades of research, investigators are still hopeful that a cure for HIV may be possible. The use of broadly neutralizing antibodies to enhance the immune response is one strategy investigators have their eyes on toward achieving HIV remission.
