We are pleased to announce that Ken S. Ho, MD, MPH, was recently promoted to the rank of Associate Professor of Medicine, retroactive to November 1, 2022. Dr. Ho was appointed as a Staff Physician for the Pittsburgh AIDS Center for Treatment (PACT) Clinic in 2007. He completed an ID Fellowship at UPMC in 2010. Concurrently, Dr. Ho was selected as an NIH T32 Postdoctoral Fellow under the direction of Dr. Mellors. Dr. Ho was appointed to the position of Faculty Instructor with the Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases in 2011 and promoted to the rank of Assistant Professor of Medicine in 2013.
Dr. Ho’s current primary research interest focuses on biomedical strategies for HIV prevention, and in particular, HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and microbicide development. He conducts multiple clinical trials of PrEP microbicide at the University of Pittsburgh Clinical Trials Unit. Dr. Ho established, staffed, and directed the first PrEP clinic at UPMC in 2013. Since 2013, Dr. Ho has served as the Medical Director for Project Silk, an HIV prevention and care initiative serving sexual and gender minority youth of color in the Pittsburgh region. He is the Medical Director of the Pitt Men’s Study, the Pittsburgh site of the NIH-funded Multicenter AIDS Cohort Study/Women’s Interagency HIV Study (MACS/WIHS) Combined Cohort Study. He also serves as the Chair of the AIDS Free Pittsburgh Prevention Subcommittee.
Dr. Ho is considered a national expert on HIV prevention. He is a determined and talented clinical researcher with a strong record of accomplishment as a clinician, educator, community leader, and mentor. Dr. Ho continues to distinguish himself as a leading investigator in HIV prevention and continues to enhance the missions of the ID Division and the Department of Medicine.
